Children’s vision screening: The first step to teeing, learning, and growing better
Vision is one of the most important senses during childhood. Through their eyes, children discover the world, learn to read and write, play, and develop essential skills. However, many visual problems go unnoticed, especially in the early school years.
That’s why at Ópticas Perea, we are firmly committed to prevention—and one of the most effective tools for this is children’s vision screening.
What is a vision screening?
A vision screening is a basic, quick, and non-invasive check-up designed to detect potential visual issues before they develop into more serious problems. While it doesn’t replace a full eye exam, it does help identify early warning signs that often go unnoticed, such as:
- Difficulty focusing
- Myopia or hyperopia
- Astigmatism
- Poor eye coordination
- Visual fatigue
These symptoms can negatively impact academic performance, attention, and even a child’s behavior in class.
Why is it important during childhood?
Because children often don’t realize they have vision problems. They don’t complain—they just adapt: they move closer to the board, slow down in class, avoid reading, or become easily distracted.
Getting a vision screening at the right time can make all the difference. It allows us to:
- Detect visual problems before they affect learning
- Prevent long-term complications
- Boost the child’s confidence in the classroom
- Support parents and teachers with valuable insights
When is it recommended?
- Before starting primary school (ages 4–6)
- Once a year, especially if there is a family history or visible symptoms
A special morning at C.E.I.P. Antonio Gala
The best way to understand the value of vision screening is to see it in action. That’s why part of the Ópticas Perea team recently visited C.E.I.P. Antonio Gala in Torre del Mar to carry out free vision screenings for students.
Thanks to the collaboration with WIVI Vision—an innovative system based on artificial intelligence and 3D video games—we were able to assess the children’s visual efficiency quickly, safely, and in a way that was genuinely fun for them.
For the kids, it felt like playing. For us, it was a valuable chance to identify issues that might otherwise go unnoticed.
It was a morning full of smiles, curiosity, and learning—but most of all, a demonstration of our ongoing commitment to children’s visual health.
Seeing well means growing with confidence
A vision screening can be the first step in improving a child’s life. At Ópticas Perea, we’ll continue supporting initiatives like these, bringing visual health closer to families, classrooms, and our local community.
Because seeing well isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. And the earlier we act, the better.
We look forward to welcoming you at our optical center.
