Enjoy a good read, taking care of your vision

We could consider April as the "Month of the Book".

And we're not just saying that. There are two dates marked on the calendar that support this statement:

  • 2 April - International Children's and Young People's Book Day.
  • 23 April - International Book Day

Nowadays, a book goes beyond the traditional physical format: ebooks or electronic books, audio books, interactive books?

They all have one thing in common: they contain information, they tell a story.

Whether in physical or digital format, books are a source of knowledge, entertainment and imagination.

If you want to continue to enjoy your passion for reading, keep reading this article because we are going to give you a series of tips on how to do so, while taking care of your eyesight.

Lighting

Adequate light: Natural or artificial, it should not cause annoying reflections on the reading surface.

Avoid direct light: To avoid eye fatigue, do not read directly under direct sunlight or a lamp.

Adjust brightness: If you use any electronic device for reading, adjust the brightness of the screen to a comfortable level for your eyes.

Distance and posture

Keep an appropriate distance: Book or ebook 40-50 centimeters from your eyes.

Adopt a correct posture: Sit with a straight back and relaxed shoulders. Avoid reading lying down or in uncomfortable positions.

Breaks and rests

Take regular breaks: Every 20-30 minutes, rest your eyes by looking away.

Keep your eyes moisturised: While reading, your blinking frequency usually decreases, which leads to dry eyes. By blinking frequently, you will keep your eyes lubricated. If you also have a regular feeling of dry eyes, you can also use artificial tears.
